Small Ones Develop (SmOD) was born on Saturday 12 April 2014 and later registered as a non-profit organisation in Sweden (read our STATUTES). The idea emerged from a few people, now composing the board, who had experienced in a way or another the benefits of volunteering in a different country. On top of that, some of us did internships abroad whereas others studied development related issues, hence SmOD’s interest in development. From this exciting combination of backgrounds arose the SmOD project which rests on 3 pillars.
SmOD’s idea is to work on three different fronts: volunteer work, project development and awareness raising. Sending volunteers is done through AMAIDI‘s national office, which SmOD runs. In the medium/long-term, we will create partnerships with grassroots NGOs in developing countries and develop local projects with them. At the same time, we plan on organising activities locally (in Sweden) to raise awareness about current development issues.
